Positive Ageing Month American Doubles Tournament Information
What is Positive Ageing Month?
October is Positive Ageing Month, a month-long festival of events and activities for older people. It celebrates the contribution that older people make to their communities!
How is Ballymena Lawn Tennis Club for celebrating Positive Aging Month?
On Saturday morning between 11am-1pm we are for holding an American Doubles Tournament for those aged 50 and over within the club.
Event Rules and Format
An American tournament is a round robin mixed doubles competition in which participants are initially paired at random. Timed rounds are played on a rotational basis, swapping partners between rounds, and there are small prizes for the players who win the most games overall. While this event is for those aged 50 and Above, senior members of all age ranges are welcome to compete
The rules
- 15- 20 minute rounds. Players play as many games as they can in the allotted time.
- No advantage scoring. If the score reaches deuce, it’s a sudden death point to win the game.
- Tied score. If the score in points is even when the round ends a sudden death point is played to win that game.
- Changing partners. At the end of each round losers stay on court, winners move up a court and new pairings are formed.
Refreshments
Some light refreshments (Tea, Coffee, Juice) will be held in the Ballymena Academy Sixth Form Centre afterwards. Those attending are asked to bring some items such a buns, biscuits, cakes etc.
